Boston bosses the ring at the Salers Spring Sale

Bulls and weanling heifers led the trade at the Irish Salers Spring Show & Sale at Gort Mart, Co Galway on Thursday 30th March. Judge on the night was Padraig McConn from Ballygar Salers, Co Galway. The Society offered a €300 cashback to the purchasers of the two top priced bulls to clear the €3000 mark

Bulls topped at €3080 for the outstanding Carrentubber Boston, bred by David, Luke and Adam Kirrane, Tubbercurry, Co Sligo. Boston is a 13 month old son of Montesqieu SA6253. His dam Cumbrian Jolie 945 Poll is a very impressive cow with Ideal, Vaillant and Upperlands Banker bloodlines. The cow was imported from Tom and Ian Walling, Farmstock Genetics, UK.

Ashbury Apollo a Geronimo son sold for €3020, bred by Alfie and Conor Melvin, Co Dublin. A RIO son Glengowla Andy sold for €2,680, bred by Ryan and Martin Gibbons, Co Galway. Bulls averaged €2695/head with an 80% clearance rate

Seven heifers sold for €2000+

Highest priced female was Spiddal Betty, sold for €2260. Betty is a 12 month old Spiddal Pat daughter with Bonaparte and Highfield Odran bloodlines. Bred by Peatsai & Padraic Conneely, Co Galway

Overall Female Champion was the very stylish Wallstown Beauty. At just 10 months old she sold for €2,000, bred by Jerry and Ann McNamara, Co Cork. Beauty is by Knottown Noah with Vaillant and Rio bloodlines. Five Wallstown heifers averaged €1,792/head at just 9 months old

Des Buckley from Lisselton, Co Kerry had an evening to remember. Des had a superb pen of weanling heifers. Top two heifers in the pen Guhard Bethany and Guhard Bernadette sold for €2080 and €2000 respectively.  Bethany boasts a strong pedigree of Forez, Ulsan and Corlurgan Ourson. Whilst Bernadette is a Lataster Eric daughter with Beguin and Vaillant bloodlines

Two maiden heifers hit the €2000 mark, first to do so was Ashbury Aurora bred by Alfie and Conor Melvin, Co Dublin. Ballyvonnavaun Abbie bred by Declan Bell, Co Clare followed suit at €2000

There was an 86% clearance rate of heifers offered for sale
