This year the Salers Cattle Society of Ireland celebrates 25 years in existence. In that time our breed has gone from being relatively unknown to widely regarded as the best suckler cow you can get. The appeal of the breed has broadened in recent years and now the majority of suckler farmers have some Salers influence in their herd. Many breeders have given of their time over the years to promote our great breed, whether that be serving on council, exhibiting at shows or in more recent times, posting to social media.
Throughout that time there has been one constant and that has been our secretary, Meryl Gillespie. Now, after 25 years of service, Meryl has decided to retire.
As chairman, on behalf of myself and my council colleagues, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Meryl for the work she has done & the time she has put in over the years. It has been a real pleasure to work with Meryl and get to know her. Nothing was ever a problem for Meryl & she always dealt with people with fairness & courtesy. She was meticulous in maintaining the office & our herdbook and she will be sorely missed. Míle buíochas Meryl. (Declan Bell)

A Message from Meryl.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is and was involved in the Salers Cattle Society. I have enjoyed my time over the last 25 years as Secretary and seeing the Irish Salers Society expanding over the years. It has been a pleasure working with breeders over the phone and lovely to meet many of you in person. I would like to thank everyone that has been on the Council, past and present, for their voluntary work in running the Society.
A special thanks to the current Chairman, Declan Bell who is doing a fantastic job and thanks for all your support in making my job easier.
I wish all the best to Ken Hill who is taking over as Secretary.
Looking forward to meeting you all at various Shows over the coming years.
Thanks Again, Meryl Gillespie
